Who Is Open To Birth?
I’m Kim Ambrose, the founding member of Open To Birth L.C, and I couldn’t be happier to have the opportunity to work with pregnant and birthing families. Being a supportive person and a team player is what I was born to be. I’ve been through a lot in my life and what has remained the same is that I have always enjoyed making those around me feel loved and happy. I’m a Baltimore native who attended Massage School in Charleston, West Virginia, and I trained as a Birth Doula through DONA International, as well as a Childbirth Educator through ICEA. I also do stand-up comedy in Baltimore – fun fact about me.
Becoming a Massage Therapist allowed me to understand not only how the human body works, but also how to treat both the body and the mind with a relaxing, safe environment and therapeutic bodywork. By becoming certified in Prenatal, Labor, and Postpartum Massage with Claire Marie Miller at Nurturing The Mother, I was able to expand my knowledge in order to provide specific and individualized care to women in their childbearing year. I love being able to help any Mom-To-Be or New Mom become more comfortable, relaxed, and healthy.
As a Birthing Doula I practice a wide variety of support styles. Everyone’s needs are different, so I let Mama’s needs lead the way. From being a silent presence to a fully involved participant, I’m open to support in whatever way is best for you. Being a Certified Doula means the world to me because I believe that every woman should feel safe and supported during the intense experience of childbirth. I like to help in whatever way I am needed and each birth allows me to do that. I look forward to seeing the global Doula business blossom and more Moms getting the support they need.
I grew up in a family that helps people through the mourning and loss of loved ones. My paternal family’s business, the Ambrose Funeral Home, is 80 years old, and is, no doubt, a big part of why caring for others is so important to me. As a naturally rebellious child, I’ve decided to go completely in the opposite direction and celebrate Life!, helping women bring their children to the world. Supporting people and helping families is in my lineage, it’s in the foundations of who I am. It really is a blessing to be able to see a new person’s life begin because of the hard work and selfless dedication of a woman becoming a Mother.
